2018 Miracles Begin With You! Event to Honor Dr. Mark Barret and “Lucky” Larry Thompson
On Thursday, January 26, 2018, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will be honoring CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic pediatrician Dr. Mark Barret and Mix 93.1 DJ and passionate CMNH advocate, “Lucky” Larry Thompson at the 6th Annual Miracle Begin With You! Event at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler, Texas.
Mark Twain is credited with saying that there are two days in your life that are particularly important, the day you were born and the day you discover why. The 2018 Miracles Begin With You! Honorees have been blessed to fulfill their lifes’ purposes and serve the community selflessly each day.
One mantra of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is “For The Kids.” These simple words remind us of why we work so hard, but few people embody that phrase more faithfully than Dr. Mark Barret.
A graduate of UT Southwestern Medical Center, Barret has been a CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic pediatrician since 1995 and has treated several children who have joined the CMN Hospitals’ family as Miracle Children, including 2018 Miracle Child, Jack Bryans!
Those who know Dr. Barret know that his heart is not only in his work treating local children here in Northeast Texas, but investing in the communities served by Parental Care Ministries in Eastern Uganda.
In 2006, prompted by their youngest daughter Libby, Mark and his wife Monica were drawn to missionary work, and in 2008 helped in founding Parental Care Ministries USA.
The Barret family travels regularly to Uganda with Parental Care Ministries USA, where they serve some of the most under-resourced individuals on earth.

For the past 20 years, Lucky Larry has hit the airwaves each August to prompt his listeners to give from their hearts to help kids during the Mix With Kids Radiothon on Mix 93.1. And for these two decades, Lucky has been a dedicated partner and advocate for children and the impact that is made when community members come together to make miracles.
Lucky Larry is a member of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Community Advisory Board, which is the committee that helps turn money raised into miracle-making equipment and critical pediatric programs. This committee hears from pediatric caregivers from across the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System as they present their “wish lists” of equipment and programs that would help continue the tradition of pediatric excellence in our community.
There is always far more in requests than Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has in dollars…and that is how we know our job is not done. But, with partners like Lucky Larry, more miracles are made each year.
